Frequently Asked Questions
Are your books created using AI?
Yes, in part.
Depending on the title, AI may assist with drafting and development, translation, audiobook narration, formatting, cover or marketing assets, metadata, and other parts of production. The exact mix varies from project to project.
What it does not mean is unsupervised machine output. Human professionals set the creative direction, make the editorial decisions, review the work, and approve every title before it is published. The full breakdown is on our How We Create Stories page.
Are humans involved in the process?
Yes, at every stage where judgment is required.
People decide what we publish. People direct the creative work. People edit, proof, and approve it. People choose the audiobook voices and review the finished audio. A human editor signs off on every title before it reaches you.
AI does production work. It does not decide what is good.
Why does New Chronica® use AI?
Because a great many books that deserve to exist in more formats currently do not, and the reason is cost.
Traditional publishing economics require every title to justify its production expense. That works well for books with large, predictable audiences. It works poorly for backlist, niche genres, debut authors, translated editions, and specialized works — which together account for most books ever published.
AI-assisted production changes what is economically possible. It lets us publish titles that would otherwise be shelved, and produce audiobooks that would otherwise never be recorded.
How are audiobooks produced?
Our audiobooks are produced using AI-assisted narration technology under human production direction.
A human producer selects the voice and sets the performance direction. Pronunciation, pacing, emphasis, and character differentiation are configured and corrected by human review. The finished audio is proofed before release, and every audiobook produced this way is identified as such on its product page.
How is quality maintained?
Through a defined quality-control process, and through accountability when that process misses something.
Every title receives editorial review, proofreading, format validation, and metadata checks. Audiobook editions are audio-proofed before release. Final approval rests with a human editor.
We also fix problems after publication. If you find an error, report it and we will address it in an updated edition.
What is The Audiobook Access Initiative™?
It is our program for producing audiobook editions of titles that traditional production economics leave behind — backlist, niche genres, debut authors, translated editions, and specialized works.
Most books have never had an audiobook edition. The Initiative exists to change that number.
How do I know whether a specific book used AI?
***OPTIONAL QUESTION – PROPOSED ANSWER BELOW. WILL REMOVE THIS LINE IF WE KEEP***
Every New Chronica® product page carries a transparency statement describing how that title was produced. If you are looking at one of our books or audiobooks and want to know how it was made, the answer is on the page you are already on.
